60 Plus Launches “No Medicare IRS” Campaign

Conservative senior group introduces website, web video and ad campaign to highlight IPAB concerns for seniors

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The 60 Plus Association, nationally recognized as the conservative alternative to the liberal AARP, today launched “No Medicare IRS” – a new campaign addressing the Independent Payment Advisory Board’s unchecked power to cut doctor payments and ultimately decide what treatments seniors receive.

“Seniors knew that forcing a big-government health care program through Congress would be disastrous for the Greatest Generation, and we were right,” said Pat Boone, national spokesman for the 60 Plus Association.  “In addition to cutting a half-trillion dollars from Medicare, Obama’s health care law created a board of unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats that will function like a Medicare IRS and have the authority to deny seniors the care we deserve. Washington liberals have failed to keep their promises to seniors, but we won’t stand idly by and watch as our quality of care and health care choices are taken away.”

NoMedicareIRS.com will be a clearinghouse of information regarding IPAB’s impact on seniors.  The interactive website will answer key questions as well as give seniors an opportunity to take action and become involved in the debate.  To learn more or view the video, please visit www.NoMedicareIRS.com.

“No Medicare IRS gives seniors a much deserved voice in the IPAB debate,” said Jim Martin, chairman of the 60 Plus Association.  “This bureaucratic board will deny many seniors a voice in their health care treatments, likely decrease the quality and availability of care for America’s Greatest Generation, and insert a government bureaucrat in the middle of the doctor-patient relationship.  The No Medicare IRS campaign will make sure the promises Members of Congress made to protect seniors and our health care benefits are kept when our Representatives go to Washington.”

PAT BOONE:
Hi friend, I’m Pat Boone.  Last year, a lot of promises were made regarding health care reform, but America’s seniors knew forcing a bill through Congress when Americans overwhelmingly opposed it would be disastrous.  And we were right.

NARRATOR:
President Obama’s health care law cuts $500 billion from Medicare to pay for a new government program, and it creates a board of 15 unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats.  It’s like a Medicare IRS with the power to cut Medicare even more.

PAT BOONE:
This IPAB board can ration care and deny certain Medicare treatments so Washington can fund more wasteful spending.  Your choices could be limited and you may not be able to keep your own doctor.

NARRATOR:
Medicare will be bankrupt in nine years, but Washington politicians are ignoring the problem, putting their own re-elections first.

Call your Senators.  Urge them to support real Medicare reform and protect our seniors.

PAT BOONE:
Unaccountable bureaucrats should never have the power to deny you the care you deserve.
