SAVE Act: I’m a federalist when it comes to states administering elections.
However, it makes PERFECT sense for Congress to set basic, uniform standards across the country that:
– Require proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote
– Mandate States to verify citizenship of voters
– Require the removal of non-citizens from voter roles
– AND – Require a photo ID to vote
If the American people can’t have faith in our electoral system, the whole process of representative government erodes. ONLY citizens should vote.
One has to ask oneself, why would the progressive left oppose these common-sense reforms? Seriously, why???
As U.S. Senator Mike Lee pointed out: The Constitution—through Article I, Section 4—empowers Congress to pass the SAVE America Act.
The NVRA—which SCOTUS has (wrongly) interpreted to prohibit states from seeking proof of citizenship when registering voters under the NVRA (even when it believes non-citizens are registering)—makes the SAVE America Act necessary.
It’s a solution to a distinctively federal problem created by existing federal law—not an infringement on state authority.
This is NOT nationalizing elections. This keeps federalism in place by allowing states to continue to administer elections, but under some uniform standards guaranteeing basic election integrity.
It’s time to return to the “Talking Filibuster,” especially for legislation overwhelmingly supported by the American people but stuck in Senate gridlock. The “Talking Filibuster” is the historic norm. This is nothing more than actually abiding the Senate’s own rules.
We need to clean up our process. But the danger, I guess, is do we think partisan Democrats will outlast or out fight Republicans and any reform-minded Democrats when it comes to election reform?

Russia Wants to Destroy Ukraine – NOT Make Peace: Over the last few weeks, Russia Duma members and talking heads on Russian propaganda “news” programs have been advocating for destroying Ukraine. They are pushing for “killing” them all and using nuclear weapons, etc.
Putin has stirred up his electorate for obvious internal political reasons to cover up the costs of this disastrous war and now the crumbling economic situation in Russia.
I doubt there is a viable peace plan from the Russian perspective that will work. The only option is for Ukraine to defeat Russia and chase them off their country’s land.

Senate GOP Can Fix Elections, Boost Trump, And Wreck Dems With The SAVE Act
What if I told you Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., has the power and the votes — right now — to save Republicans’ congressional majorities, President Trump’s second-term agenda, and maybe the republic itself, all while poleaxing Democrats on the short side of an 84-15 issue?
It sounds like fantasy. But like the Lady of the Lake from Arthurian legend, 2026 is offering up to the GOP a political weapon almost as powerful as Excalibur itself: an extended Democrat talking filibuster of national voter ID legislation.
Popular Idea, Toxic Opposition
Requiring voters to prove their citizenship is one of the most popular ideas in the country, with 84 percent of Americans supporting and only 15 percent opposed. That’s why 36 states and most of the world’s developed countries already have it on the books.
To most Americans, the only thing suspicious about voter ID is why anyone would oppose it. Surely no one wants noncitizens voting, right? Right?
Republicans clash over the Senate filibuster and Trump-backed voter ID bill
Some SAVE Act backers insist the GOP can use a “talking filibuster” to tire out Democrats and pass it. Republican leader Thune hasn’t ruled out trying, but he’s skeptical it could work.
Republicans are on the brink of an internal clash over the SAVE Act, a high priority for President Donald Trump that would overhaul election laws nationwide and require proof of citizenship to vote.
The legislation has passed the House but faces a 60-vote threshold in the Senate, which the 53-seat Republican majority has no hope of achieving because of fierce Democratic opposition.
So some Republicans are pushing Senate leadership to find a way to sidestep the filibuster. They recognize they don’t have the votes to abolish it, despite Trump’s wishes. But they believe they have another path: using existing rules to force Senate Democrats to engage in a “talking filibuster” on the floor, tire them out until they submit and proceed to a vote on the bill at a simple-majority threshold.
“Return to Senate tradition. Require filibustering senators to (gasp) actually speak,” Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, a vocal proponent of the idea and chief sponsor of the legislation, said on X. “Using existing Senate rules. Pass the SAVE America Act.”
Polls Deliver Clear Verdict: Americans Back Trump’s Deportation Agenda, Reject Anti-ICE Politics
“Voters see illegal immigration as a simple question of law and order.”
Two new polls suggest that Americans broadly support the Trump administration’s deportation agenda even as “ICE Out” rages at the Grammys, though with some possible reservations about illegal aliens who have not committed other serious crimes.
The polling firm Cygnal released the results of a late January poll on Monday that shows majority support for deportations of illegal aliens. Conversely, Democratic calls to defund Immigration and Customs Enforcement and partially shut down the government over deportations are politically toxic.
“Voters see illegal immigration as a simple question of law and order,” said Cygnal founder and CEO Brent Buchanan. “The data leaves no wiggle room. Americans want the law enforced, they want illegal immigrants removed, and they punish politicians who try to block ICE from doing its job.”
The Cygnal poll was conducted from January 27–28 and has a margin of error of 3.09%. Pollsters questioned 1,004 likely 2026 midterm general election voters.
The Cygnal poll found that Americans support deporting illegal aliens by 61% to 34%, nearly 2 to 1 in favor of deportations. An even greater share, 73%, agree that entering the United States without legal permission is a violation of law. A slimmer majority, 54%, support ICE enforcing federal immigration laws and conducting deportations.
Republicans fear Trump backlash could cost them Senate control
Senate Republicans are concerned that public backlash to President Trump’s handling of the economy and his aggressive deportation policies could give rise to a Democratic wave that not only sweeps away the House Republican majority, but also threatens their own three-seat majority in the upper chamber.
The latest alarm bell rang over the weekend when Democratic candidate Taylor Rehmet won a state Senate seat in a North Texas district that President Trump won by 17 points in 2024, a stunning upset that GOP senators say should serve as a “wake-up call” heading into November.
One GOP senator who attended a Tuesday briefing at the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) said concern over the approaching midterms “should be very, very high.”
The lawmaker called Saturday’s loss in the Texas special election “a wake-up call” and said Republican senators in battleground states, such as Sen. Susan Collins (R) in Maine and retiring Sen. Thom Tillis (R) in North Carolina, have repeatedly warned Senate colleagues that the party faces a “deteriorating” political environment.
“Senators are saying more and more loudly that they’re very, very concerned about the environment, that it’s continuing to deteriorate. They say it over and over again,” the senator said of discussions within the GOP conference about “political headwinds” facing GOP candidates.

A stunning setback for Republicans at the ballot box in a ruby red part of right-leaning Texas has some saying the defeat was a “wake-up call” for the GOP ahead of this year’s midterm elections, when the party is defending its narrow congressional majorities.
The double-digit shellacking, in a special state Senate election this past weekend in a Fort Worth area district that President Donald Trump won by 17 points in 2024, comes amid backlash over the Trump administration’s unprecedented crackdown on illegal immigration and, as the latest polling indicates, the president and his party are well underwater.
The Democrats’ victory, their latest win or over performance in a slew of special elections since Trump returned to power in the White House a year ago, is further energizing them as they work to win back control of the House and possibly the Senate.
“It’s clearly a wake-up call for Republicans,” longtime Texas-based Republican strategist Brendan Steinhauser told Fox News Digital.
Clintons agree to testify after House threatens contempt in Jeffrey Epstein probe

Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have agreed to testify in the House Oversight Committee’s Jeffrey Epstein investigation after lawmakers moved toward holding them in criminal contempt of Congress.
The committee said in a post on X that the Clintons were “trying to dodge contempt by requesting special treatment,” adding that “The Clintons are not above the law.”
Angel Ureña, deputy chief of staff to Bill Clinton, confirmed in a post on X that both Clintons will appear before the panel.
“They negotiated in good faith. You did not,” Ureña wrote. “But the former president and former Secretary of State will be there and look forward to setting a precedent that applies to everyone.”
US Senator Backs Tomahawks for Ukraine as Russia Launches Missile Attacks
US Senator Lindsey Graham called on President Donald Trump to begin supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk cruise missiles and to intensify pressure on the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, after Russia’s latest large-scale strikes on Ukrainian cities, according to his statement on X on February 3.
“Clearly, the pressure we’re applying to Putin to come to the peace table and stop massive attacks against Ukraine is not working,” Graham said.
He also added that the US and Europe should pursue Trump’s idea of targeting buyers of Russian oil that, in Graham’s words, “prop up” Russia’s war effort.
Graham pointed to US tariffs on India as an example of how such pressure could reduce purchases of Russian oil, arguing that similar steps by other major buyers could help end the war.
“Finally, after this massive attack last night, I would urge President Trump to start a process to provide Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles, which would be a game-changer militarily,” he wrote, adding, “In the coming days and weeks, we must apply more pressure to Putin.”
Russia’s False Promises of Peace
As Putin’s cruel winter war drags on, renewed aid from the United States could tilt things decisively in Ukraine’s favor.
THE WAR IN UKRAINE is stalled in almost every way. The front lines—despite the boasting of Russian propagandists and the obsessive map-measuring of some myopic commentators—are essentially static. The deep-strike campaigns on both sides are escalating in scale and sophistication, but not to the point that either side can break the other’s will or ability to keep fighting. Politically and diplomatically, President Donald Trump keeps spinning Russia, Ukraine, Europe, and the United States in circles without really moving them anywhere. This stalemate is a grim and depressing prospect.
But it’s also an opportunity.
The trilateral peace negotiations involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States in Abu Dhabi, which opened on January 23, are scheduled to resume this week. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the talks “constructive” and “productive,” which is diplomatic speak for “nothing doing.” But Russia is still demanding Ukraine cede the portion of the Donbas region it still controls—which includes the heavy military fortifications at Slovyansk and Kramatorsk—and Ukraine refuses to give it up. The issue of territory remains unresolved and possibly unresolvable. Russia continues to act, and even talk, in ways suggesting that it has no real interest in a peace agreement. And Trump continues to fuel speculation that, for one reason or another, he is doing the Kremlin’s bidding.
The public signals from Russia right now are schizophrenic: Sergei Ushakov, one of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s top aides, invited Zelensky to Moscow for peace talks and guaranteed his security, while Russian Security Council Deputy Secretary Dmitry Medvedev bragged about a Russian “military victory” and ominously predicted that Zelensky “will not keep his head on his shoulders.”
Meanwhile, last Thursday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov insisted that “we do not comment publicly on negotiations that are meant to be conducted in confidential silence”—but then quickly pooh-poohed U.S. claims that the peace agreement was “90 percent finalized.” He suggested that Russia’s essential position had not budged from Putin’s June 2024 proposal (which included a demand that Ukraine surrender, in their entirety, the four regions Russia had formally annexed in September 2022), or even from the terms offered in Istanbul in April 2022 (which would have left Ukraine essentially disarmed).
Why Putin lies to Trump
In chess, there’s a move called a fork. You attack two pieces at once, forcing the hand of your counterpart. Russian President Vladimir Putin relishes opportunities to fork his enemies.
He recently told President Trump that his Valdai residence had been attacked by Ukrainian drones. The story was a brazen lie and quickly collapsed. But that was beside the point. By telling it, an old KGB hand boxed the U.S. president into two bad options: Confront the lie and respond forcefully to such overt disrespect, or ignore it and appear gullible or, worse, accommodating toward someone who had just insulted the office.
For Putin, shaped by decades in Soviet and Russian intelligence service, deception is the default setting. He does not negotiate — he manipulates. It is not that he dislikes dealmaking; it is that the idea barely registers. Lying comes easily and instinctively, and the person across from him is never a partner, only an object to be used and exploited.
In 2001, George W. Bush famously described his interaction with the Kremlin ruler, who was then seen as a budding democrat, as follows: “I found him to be very straightforward and trustworthy … a man deeply committed to his country and the best interests of his country.”
Russia is a resource-rich state where two-thirds of the rural population lacks indoor plumbing. More than a million men have been killed or wounded in a war of his own choice. In short, Putin’s record points less to concern for his nation than to the pursuit of power and the perpetuation of a bloodthirsty imperial order at all costs.

House Republicans are sounding the alarm over what they say is a growing threat from China-linked “paper mills” that may be injecting fake scientific research into U.S. government-funded programs, potentially compromising taxpayer-funded science and American scientific leadership.
In oversight letters sent this week and obtained by Fox News Digital, House Science, Space, and Technology Committee Chairman Rep. Brian Babin, R-Texas, and subcommittee chair Rep. Rich McCormick, R-Ga., are demanding answers from federal agencies about what safeguards they have in place to prevent falsified or plagiarized studies tied to CCP-backed publishing operations from influencing federal grants and research.
The letters warn that fraudulent academic papers, produced by so-called paper mills that manufacture or sell research for profit, are increasingly appearing in U.S. journals and may already be shaping federally funded science, despite originating from operations linked to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
“These operations are becoming major sources of falsified and plagiarized research,” the committee wrote, cautioning that U.S. research grants could be awarded to individuals who rely on compromised studies or collaborate with CCP-affiliated funding sources, undermining the integrity of taxpayer-funded programs.
America Revived- A Grand Strategy of Resolute Global Leadership
The United States faces the most dangerous international circumstances since the end of World War II, and perhaps in its history. An ever more formidable, authoritarian China remains determined to replace the United States as the leading nation in Asia and eventually the world. The need for an effective U.S. grand strategy to deal with that threat, among others, is accordingly urgent. Grand strategy refers to a nation’s collective deployment of all its relevant instruments of power to accomplish key strategic goals. Given the United States’ longtime material, institutional, and ideational strengths, American grand strategy involves projecting its great power for the survival of world order. To that end, sustaining prosperity, which derives substantially from the United States’ dominance in technological innovation, becomes the economic precondition for protecting its own homeland, the homelands of its allies, and its diverse national interests. It can achieve those goals through both military and non-military methods, but force is acceptable only if it represents an inescapable choice to protect vital national interests. Promoting democracy is never such an inescapable choice.
This report analyzes five alternative schools of American grand strategy and then proposes a sixth school, resolute global leadership. The primacy school of grand strategy, which includes neoconservatism, asserts that the United States must remain the world’s unrivaled superpower in every region and, toward that end, prevent the reemergence of a peer competitor.
