Conservatives are gravely disappointed in the recent decision of the House Republican Conference to return to the practice of earmarking.
As we have detailed in a previous statement, earmarking leads directly to waste and corruption. Moreover, the practice will give the House Democratic majority another tool by which to punish outspoken conservatives while buying off votes for dramatic revisions to how our nation is governed, including a mass amnesty for illegal immigrants, a comprehensive upending of our election laws, and entrenchment of Democratic power via District of Columbia statehood.
Regardless of what the House Republican Conference has decided, we encourage conservatives not to engage in the practice of earmarking. To that end, we urge every House conservative to sign onto the pledge being circulated by Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), confirming they will not request earmarks, even when they are dressed up as “community funding projects.”
