Conservatives oppose, in the strongest terms, vaccine mandates imposed at the federal, state, military, and corporate level, and we urge Congress to defund the federal vaccine mandate at the soonest opportunity.

As president-elect in December of 2020, Joe Biden said he would not make the COVID-19 vaccine mandatory. But that is exactly what his administration has announced it will now do for employees across the government, including the military, and for businesses with over 100 employees. Many large corporations have voluntarily followed, before the rule is even final.

These mandates are not only coercive, they are scientifically dubious. Numerous evidence-based studies demonstrate that natural immunity from previous COVID-19 infection is effective against future severe infection. At least one recent study in Israel suggests that natural immunity was “27 times more effective than vaccinated immunity in preventing symptomatic infections.”

Moreover, these vaccine mandates provide little recourse for those seeking religious and health exemptions. Americans have always had the right to make health choices in consultation with their doctor and their personal faith. Removing these avenues of individual choice – including what may be medically advised by a personal physician – is a level of unprecedented compulsion from the federal government.

History has demonstrated that once rights are successfully coerced, they are unlikely to return. If the federal response to the COVID-19 pandemic has made anything clear, it is that the government will continue to take power for itself under the guise of emergency unless it is actively prohibited from doing so.

We call on conservatives in Congress to vigorously oppose the funding of these mandates in the forthcoming Continuing Resolution, and to defend the right of choice and conscience which is the birthright of all Americans.
