Romney Scores Win in First Debate

On Seniors Issues Especially, GOP Nominee Bests Obama

Jim Martin, “Romney was already up 20 points with seniors, after this debate he may be up 50.”

(Alexandria, Virginia) – 60 Plus Chairman Jim Martin, leader of the nation’s largest conservative seniors organization with over 7.2 million senior supporters, issued a statement regarding this evening’s presidential debate between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney:

“Governor Romney made his case tonight in a clear and convincing manner, strongly contrasting his agenda of limited government, less spending and building our economy through free enterprise with the ‘trickle down government’ policies of President Obama.

“From the perspective of America’s seniors, Mitt Romney won the day by highlighting the moral responsibility of our leaders to fix Social Security and Medicare, put them on solid footing for today’s seniors, and preserve them for future generations.

“Unfortunately, the President still cannot justify his policies of cutting over $700 billion from Medicare, or his total inaction on making Social Security solvent to prevent steep benefit cuts or institute major tax increases.

“Whether on issues affecting seniors, the debt, job, energy or entitlements, after four years in office Barack Obama still has no answers. And that’s just not good enough.”
