Seniors Applaud Committee Vote to Kill IPAB

17-5 vote a “step in the right direction,” 60 Plus Jim Martin

(Alexandria, Virginia) – 60 Plus Chairman Jim Martin, leader of the nation’s largest conservative seniors organization with over 7.1 million senior supporters, applauded the bi-partisan vote today to kill the Independent Patient Advisory Board.

Titled the “Medicare Decisions Accountability Act of 2011” H.R. 452 was approved in the Health Sub-Committee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee by a vote of 17-5, and would put an end to IPAB’s power to control health care decisions and ration health care services.

Said Martin, “This vote to dismantle IPAB is a small step, but a step in the right direction. IPAB represents the very worst of what Obamacare has in store for America’s seniors and families.  Having 15 unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats acting in secret to determine what health care Americans can and can’t receive is an Orwellian nightmare, and it must be stopped.

“I applaud Chairman Joe Pitts (R-PA) and the sensible Democrats who put the well-being of Americans ahead of politics. Let’s hope this is just the beginning to a successful campaign to bury IPAB once and for all.”
