Statement from 60 Plus Association on Supreme Court King v. Burwell Decision

Jim Martin: Today’s Supreme Court ruling does not make Obamacare costs go down, it does not lower skyrocketing premiums, it does not add more doctors, undo the torpedoing of Medicare or solidify the crumbling state exchanges. The last word on this law will not come from deceitful politicians, lying bureaucrats or a judge. It will come from we, the people.

(Alexandria, Virginia) — The non-partisan 60 Plus Association, America’s largest center-right seniors advocacy organization with over 7.2 million supporters nationally, issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s King v. Burwell decision today. Said 60 Plus Chairman and Founder Jim Martin:

While we disagree strongly with the decision handed down today in King v. Burwell, the reality is this is hardly a victory for anybody.

While the left and mainstream media trumpet this ruling, it remains wildly unpopular with the American public, as it has from the start. This is especially so for seniors, who are losing their doctors and cherished health plans to this law’s sweeping power-grab over our lives.

Today’s Supreme Court ruling does not make Obamacare costs go down, it does not lower skyrocketing premiums, it does not add more doctors, undo the torpedoing of Medicare or solidify the crumbling state exchanges. The last word on this law will not come from deceitful politicians, lying bureaucrats or a panel of judges. It will come from we, the people.

Abraham Lincoln said the best way to get rid of a bad law is to enforce it strictly. While the ruling today did not interpret the law strictly as written, it remains bad law and remains bad medicine for the vast majority of Americans. Today’s ruling does nothing to change that, and will only motivate seniors and Americans everywhere to fight with even more energy to repeal this law and replace it with true healthcare reform that empowers people, not government, to decide how best to manage their health and their healthcare.
