STOP Taxpayer Funded Ad Campaign for Obamacare

Jim Martin, “This may be the only law that needs its own ‘Minister of Propaganda.'”

(Alexandria, Virginia) – Despite being weeks or even days away from a Supreme Court decision that could decide the fate of the President’s unpopular health care law, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is moving forward with a $20 million public relations campaign to “educate” the public as to the laws “benefits.”  This prompted a response from 60 Plus Chairman Jim Martin, leader of the nation’s largest senior citizen organization with over 7.2 million senior supporters.

“The President must think Americans are pretty dense if he believes the problem with Obamacare is that we don’t understand it.  It is wildly unpopular precisely because we know everything there is to know about it: it steals half a trillion from Medicare, it creates an unelected rationing board, it adds trillions to our debt, it kills jobs and encourages doctors to give up medicine, it eliminates private health insurance, it sends the cost of premiums higher… need I go on?

“This PR junket amounts to nothing more than a taxpayer funded campaign ad for Obama and needs to be scrapped ASAP.  When Americans find out they are paying for ads for a product they don’t want, it will make Obamacare even more unpopular than it is now, and that’s saying something.  Obama may as well spend $20 million to promote the benefits of poison ivy, or paper cuts, or any number of other things that are more popular than his health care bill.

“To others who say that this is nothing new, I point out it is as far cry from similar public relations campaigns of the past, such as President George W. Bush’s campaign to educate seniors about the Medicare prescription drug program.  That was legislation passed with true bipartisan support, that was welcomed by seniors.  Obamacare, on the other hand, is a one party dictatorship over our health care future, and seniors are counting down the days until it is gone for good.

“The plug needs to be pulled on this ridiculous waste of tax dollars.  America doesn’t want Obamacare, and we definitely don’t want to pay for its propaganda.”
