The 60 Plus Association Releases Straw Poll Results: Overwhelming Support for the Social Security Guarantee Act

Washington, D.C. – Today, the 60 Plus Association announced the results of a nationwide Straw
Poll conducted among senior citizens regarding the Social Security Guarantee Act. The findings reveal
significant concerns about the future of Social Security and robust support for protective legislation.

Key Findings:

  1. An overwhelming number of seniors are unaware that the Supreme Court has ruled there is no
obligation for the government to repay Social Security contributions (Flemming v. Nestor).
  2. There is strong opposition to the use of Social Security funds for non-related purposes.
  3. Many respondents did not know that Social Security savings have been used for special interest
    projects.
  4. There is overwhelming support for legislation prohibiting reductions in Social Security
    benefits.
  5. 98% of respondents favor the passage of the Social Security Guarantee Act.

The Straw Poll reached over 9.6 million Senior Americans, some of whom may receive more
than more one Straw Poll, and received 757,121 total responses, underscores the urgency seniors feel
about safeguarding their benefits. The Social Security Guarantee Act, designed to protect payments from budget cuts, has gained particular interest.

“We urge our legislators to heed the voices of America’s seniors,” Anuzis added. “The
Social Security Guarantee Act is a critical step in ensuring the protection of Social Security benefits for current and future retirees.”

In light of the strong support demonstrated, the 60 Plus Association respectfully asks members of
the 118th Congress to endorse the Social Security Guarantee Act and to commit to its reintroduction in
the 119th Congress.
