60 Plus Association Statement on the United Steelworkers Decision to Continue Nurses Strike in New Jersey

WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 19, 2023) – Shame on United Steelworkers for keeping nurses on the picket line instead of at patients’ bedsides. Tuesday’s decisions make it clear the union is afraid of arbitration and more interested in making headlines for itself than making progress toward an agreement that’s good for nurses.

Nurses at RWJUH are already the highest-paid nurses in New Jersey, and the union has now rejected multiple offers from the hospital that include double-digit pay increases and higher staffing levels.

It’s past time for the union to get serious about negotiating.
