Schumer & Democrats’ Shutdown and Russia’s Folly

To my Democrat colleagues: Stop holding American families, veterans, seniors, and our military hostage. Vote to reopen the government, and stop trying to spend trillions of hard-earned taxpayer dollars on benefits for illegal immigrants.

– Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks

It’s absurd and it must end. The only thing standing in the way of reopening the government is the Democrat Party.

– Congressman Tom Emmer

We think the federal government is too big. It does too many things, and it does almost nothing well.

– Speaker of the House Mike Johnson

This may be the dumbest strategy… There are two things the American people want: do not close the government and do not raise spending. So what do the Democrats do? They say, ‘I’m going to close the government until you raise spending.‘”

– Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich

Russia – Just Stop: Russia can stop and end this war tomorrow.

Respect international borders, stop interfering in neighbors’ politics, and pull your troops back to your borders.

No one is threatening Russia. No one wants to invade Russia. Everyone would love to have Russia as a “normal,” peaceful, and engaging member of the world community.

Peace and prosperity could be simple, maybe not easy… but clearly doable.

Schumer & Democrat’s Shutdown: For purely political posturing and Schumer’s selfish personal concern about being primaried on the left by AOC, the United States government has been shut down! Disgusting.

Even worse, Democrats are doing their best to scare seniors, low-income Americans and communities that depend on some government assistance to change the narrative.

Funding healthcare for illegal immigrants is a stupid blackmail demand.

Demanding an EXTRA $1.5 trillion dollars in government spending/borrowing is a stupid blackmail demand.

Forcing massive layoffs of federal employees who primarily vote for Democrats is a stupid blackmail demand.

The Schumer/Democrat Shutdown has backfired. They lied about the policy reasons for the shutdown and had their political agenda exposed. This has proved to be a political disaster amongst most Americans except for the extreme left, who are advocating for chaos.

Schumer’s Shutdown Shenanigans are forcing taxpayers to pay $400 million a day for 750,000 federal employees NOT TO WORK.

Pass a clean “continuing resolution” to allow the government to function “as is” and then engage in making your political arguments as to why you want certain chain. That would be the logical and responsible way to move forward.

As a conservative, I love the idea that the extreme left and Schumer Democrats created an environment that may actually cause the biggest downsizing of the federal government in decades… a political disaster and backfire for the Democrats that benefits American taxpayers!

Today’s Democrat Party is not your parents’ Democrat Party… the crazy far left is in control and dangerous on so many fronts.

Open borders, illegal immigration, defunding the police, burning down our cities, men in women’s sports, transgender procedures for children… and the list goes on.

Democrats have now voted three times to keep it shut down in order to give free health care to illegals.

Much of their rhetoric is dangerous, but their policies are destroying America.

Trump sees ‘unprecedented opportunity’ to cut government during shutdown

Trump to meet with OMB Director Russell Vought to identify which agencies are ‘political scam’ for potential cuts

President Donald Trump on Thursday said he’s working to determine which “Democrat” agencies will face cuts after Democrats and Republicans failed to reach an agreement on a government funding package.

Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that he was meeting with Russell Vought, director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, later Thursday to discuss which agencies “are a political SCAM.” The president said he wanted Vought to recommend which agencies should face cuts and whether those cuts should be temporary or permanent.

“I can’t believe the Radical Left Democrats gave me this unprecedented opportunity,” read Trump’s post. “They are not stupid people, so maybe this is their way of wanting to, quietly and quickly, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

The federal government entered a partial shutdown Wednesday after the midnight funding deadline passed, with Democrats and Republicans failing to agree on a funding bill.

Whole Hog Politics: Virginia, New Jersey races turn ugly, foreshadowing midterms

Let’s start with the stipulation that the current government shutdown could hardly have been designed to be more damaging to Republican candidates in next month’s off-year gubernatorial elections in Virginia and New Jersey.

The White House is trumpeting another round of deep federal layoffs even before voters had forgotten about the pain from the Department of Government Efficiency cuts that hit Northern Virginia so hard this spring. And the move to punish Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) by trying to kill the New York Gateway project will cause just as much pain in New Jersey as it will in New York, since the project is supposed to ease congestion for commuters.

President Trump’s job approval in Virginia, according to the new poll conducted for The Hill by Emerson College, sits at 42 percent. Not coincidentally, that’s exactly the share of the vote that Republican state Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears gets in her match-up with former Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.), who clocked in at 52 percent. Those numbers closely track the results of a mid-September survey from Christopher Newport University, suggesting this isn’t an outlier.

Not only does Trump’s approval rating in Virginia pretty closely match his national average, it is identical to the number in the most recent high-quality poll on the New Jersey race. The bipartisan polling team at Fox News found Trump with a 42 percent approval rating in the Garden State and Republican gubernatorial nominee Jack Ciattarelli clocking in at, you guessed it, 42 percent of the vote against Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill.

New Report Finds Left-Wing Violence Has Skyrocketed In Recent Years

Left-wing terrorist attacks in the United States are on track to reach their highest level in three decades, according to a new study released by the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS).

The analysis found that violent plots planned or carried out by far-left extremists represented a growing share of all terrorist incidents nationwide in the first half of 2025. If current trends continue, CSIS researchers said, the year could mark the highest percentage of left-wing incidents recorded since the mid-1990s.

As of July 4, 2025—before the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and the shooting at a Dallas Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility—researchers identified five left-wing attacks or plots.

The findings come amid heightened political tensions, with critics warning that increasingly sharp rhetoric surrounding immigration, policing, and the Trump administration may be fueling extremist activity.

New Docs Reveal How Media Colluded With The Government To Manufacture Russiagate

Recently declassified documents indicate that people close to former FBI Director James Comey and Democratic Sen. Adam Schiff were connected to leaks of classified information to prominent reporters designed to portray Donald Trump and his allies as being in league with Russia.

Written in 2017, the FBI documents expose how selected Washington reporters, including Ellen Nakashima of The Washington Post and Michael Schmidt of The New York Times, scored a series of Pulitzer Prize-winning scoops in 2017 by repeating false and inflammatory leaks during President Trump’s first term.

Much of their reporting has been debunked and shown to be part of a smear campaign by high-ranking officials to undermine Trump, but the identities of those leakers have remained hidden because of the government’s apparent unwillingness to expose its own and the refusal of reporters to identify the people who misled them and the nation.

Although the heavily redacted recent disclosures do not specifically identify the suspected leakers, an RCI analysis of the documents strongly suggests that people close to Comey and Schiff, among others, were feeding the reporters information to advance the Russiagate hoax.

Yes America, Democrats really do want tax dollars for illegal immigrants

At midnight Tuesday, the government shut down. Prior to the deadline, Republicans passed their budget proposal out of the House of Representatives, but Senate Democrats, along with Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, shot it down, 55-45.

While Republicans have branded this the “Schumer Shutdown,” blame-slinging began months ago when negotiations commenced to avert the budget showdown.

The clarity of Democrats’ desire to give illegal immigrants free healthcare is abundant, as evidenced by every single Democratic nominee eagerly raising their hand in support of the policy at the June 2019 NBC presidential debate. In practice, it has become more of a shell game.

How the shell game works: Channeling federal dollars through states

Some states, often Democratic-led, are stretching the boundaries of federal Medicaid rules to extend coverage to certain immigrants who aren’t fully “qualified” under the law, effectively routing federal dollars toward groups legally considered ineligible.

The New York Times issued their own “fact check,” which vaguely admitted that “Separately, the federal government does reimburse hospitals for providing emergency care to low-income unauthorized immigrants who are otherwise ineligible for Medicaid.”

The funds in question are designated for Medicaid, which is supposed to only be for legally present immigrants, like refugees and green card holders. Republicans point out that emergency services, accessible to all including illegal immigrants, inflate these costs, and argue that the asylum-seekers who entered during Biden’s term are not in the United States lawfully.

Mike Johnson Rips Democrats, Legacy Media For ‘Intentionally Lying’ About Healthcare For Illegals

House Speaker Mike Johnson blasted Democratic lawmakers and their allies in the legacy media on Thursday for appearing to intentionally mislead Americans about illegal immigrants receiving taxpayer-funded healthcare.

Johnson and top GOP leaders accused Democratic lawmakers of seeking to restore nearly $200 billion in health care benefits for illegal migrants and other non-citizens in exchange for reopening the government. The speaker has been embarking on a media blitz in recent days and told the Daily Caller News Foundation the effort is partly to refute left-wing talking points that legacy media outlets are pushing in an effort to give cover to Democrats during the shutdown fight.

“As has been demonstrated over and over, the mainstream media is simply repeating verbatim Democrat false talking points,” Johnson told the DCNF. “We have to be out there telling the truth — because the entire mainstream media apparatus is covering for the Democrats and sharing their falsehoods.”

“ABC, CNN, CBS, MSNBC — they don’t even pretend to be objective anymore,” Johnson continued. “It’s just a totally one-sided parade.”

Iowa’s stunning, embarrassing immigration mess

On May 16, 2023, the Des Moines, Iowa, school board hired Ian Roberts to be its new superintendent. Roberts, the first African American ever chosen to run the city’s schools, formally began the job on July 1, 2023.

By the end of July, the board got some surprising news about their new superintendent. He had been named in a $250,000 settlement with an ex-employee at his previous job as head of the Millcreek Township School District in Pennsylvania. Melody Ellington, the Pennsylvania district’s human resources director under Roberts, claimed she had been subjected to “unlawful treatment.” The nature of that treatment was not revealed. Roberts said he could not comment on a confidential personnel issue, but he insisted the problem “had absolutely nothing to do with me leaving Millcreek and coming to Des Moines.”

Meanwhile, officials at the Des Moines board said Roberts’s problem was news to them. “Given the confidential nature of the settlement, there is nothing that Des Moines public schools would have known about prior to the hiring of Dr. Roberts,” the board chair, Teree Caldwell-Johnson, told the Des Moines Register. “For the same reason, this would not have been picked up by the search firm doing the background check.”

There was more. It turns out Roberts left two other settlements in his wake in Pennsylvania. Both of them, one for $87,500 and the other for $66,000, went to school officials demoted by Roberts. Altogether, Roberts left the Millcreek system on the hook for $403,500 in legal settlements. His new employers in Des Moines knew nothing about it.

Fewer candidates = more pressure for Schumer, Jeffries in New York City’s race for a new mayor

The race for New York City mayor is on hold for Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries as they confront the prospect of a government shutdown in Washington — but it can’t wait too long.

Mayor Eric Adams’ dramatic departure from the contest on Sunday winnows the contest down to two Democrats — Zohran Mamdani and Andrew Cuomo — with five weeks to go until Election Day.

Whether the Senate and House minority leaders endorse a candidate or stay neutral will have more impact now with Mamdani’s glide path to City Hall made rockier by the expectation that Cuomo, running as an independent, will absorb some of Adams’ support. And Mamdani’s allies, including progressive groups and labor unions, are turning up the pressure on party leaders in a race that’s set to tighten.

A spokesperson for Schumer declined to comment on the latest twist in the mayoral race, and New York’s senior senator has previously responded to questions about whether he’ll endorse Mamdani — the Democratic nominee — by delaying, saying the conversations will continue.

Jeffries has been less vague, but not by much. In a statement commending Adams’ work for the city after the scandal-scarred incumbent dropped out, Jeffries also punted.

Trump sets Sunday deadline for Hamas to agree to Gaza peace deal

President Trump said Friday that he is issuing a Sunday evening deadline for Hamas to agree to a U.S. peace proposal, backed by the Israeli government, to end the war in Gaza.

“An Agreement must be reached with Hamas by Sunday Evening at SIX (6) P.M., Washington, D.C. time. Every Country has signed on! If this LAST CHANCE agreement is not reached, all HELL, like no one has ever seen before, will break out against Hamas,” Mr. Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

“We will have PEACE in the Middle East one way or the other. The violence and bloodshed will stop,” Mr. Trump said.

A peace plan unveiled on Sept. 29 by the president, and endorsed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, called for Hamas to free all remaining Israeli hostages within 72 hours and for the Israeli military to begin withdrawing from parts of the Gaza Strip in phases. It also proposed handing over parts of Gaza to a “technocratic” Palestinian committee and deploying a temporary security force backed by Arab states. Mr. Trump would chair the committee which he has called a “Board of Peace.”

The Progressive Flight From Reality

Progressivism isn’t just an ideology; it’s also becoming a mental health condition.

Spiraling past the tendentious spin and lies that have long shaped American discourse on both sides of the aisle, the loudest voices on the left are losing the capacity to grasp reality. As a character in a recent Wall Street Journal cartoon put it: “You’ve got it all wrong. What I’m saying isn’t misinformation. It’s denial.”

Take Illinois Governor JB Pritzker’s recent denunciation of “White House senior aides” for “sowing fear, intimidation and division” by, among other things, calling Democrats “fascists.” Given not just his party’s but his own frequent use of such rhetoric – comparing ICE agents to Nazis who disappear immigrants and vowing that Republicans “cannot know a moment of peace” – the jaw-dropping irony of his complaint was lost on no one, except, apparently, Pritzker and his allies. It raises the question: How did he think he could get away with this?

He is not alone. In recent weeks, progressives have been assailing President Trump’s very real attacks on free speech, without wrestling with the fact that they have long been the driving force behind cancel culture, hate speech codes, and broad-based censorship efforts.

House will stay out of session next week as Senate works to solve shutdown

The House won’t return to session next week as Speaker Mike Johnson had previously indicated, according to a notice made during Friday’s pro forma session.

The move came after the Senate voted a fourth time Friday to reject a House-passed continuing resolution that would break the ongoing government shutdown. Johnson and House GOP leaders have argued that measure, which would extend federal funding through Nov. 21, is the only viable path out of the standoff.
