The President Should Be Saluting Our Seniors and Soldiers Scaring Them is Dereliction of Duty

(Alexandria, Virginia) – 60 Plus Association Chairman Jim Martin today released a web video chastising President Obama and Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) for using the debt-limit crisis to scare seniors and soldiers about whether or not they will get their checks.

“Whether seniors and soldiers receive their checks is the President’s decision and his alone. Americans deserve to know the facts, plain and simple, and the President should stop playing politics for his own political gain.” The text of the video is below:

“To my fellow senior citizens worried about your Social Security checks. They say a lie can travel half way around the world before the truth can get its shoes on. Fellow seniors, I’m Jim Martin, Chairman of the 60 Plus Association, and the truth now has its shoes on. I say to those scaring the elderly that they won’t get a check, that’s nonsense and President Obama knows it’s nonsense.

President Obama has the power of the pen — the President can decide who will get paid and when. Unfortunately it’s ‘scare old people to get votes.’ This is political fear mongering at its most craven, scaring seniors for his own re-election.

President Obama, you should be saluting seniors, not scaring them. Mr. President, do what the Constitution empowers you to do, send to seniors their Social Security checks. And while you’re at it, send checks to our soldiers. You’re the Commander-in-Chief — do your duty.”

Martin added, “As a former Marine, I remind our Commander-in-Chief that soldiers have enough to worry about on the battlefield without worrying about how to pay their mortgage. Senator Reid, showing similar disdain, held a press conference featuring the elderly, but preaching the same old BS about their Social Security checks. Total malfeasance or misfeasance or both. Were he in the military, he would probably be court-martialed.”
