Seniors Support Keystone Pipeline Act

Keystone will provide America much needed jobs and energy, and help lessen the critical impact of unstable energy prices on our nation’s elderly.

(Alexandria, Virginia) — The 60 Plus Association, America’s largest center-right seniors group with over 7.2 million supporters, today issued a statement in support of S.1, The Keystone XL Pipeline Act, which will receive a vote in the U.S. House tomorrow, setting the stage for the bill to be presented to President Obama.

Said 60 Plus Chairman Jim Martin, “The time to pass Keystone is long overdue. For more than six years this much needed, common sense project has been delayed for no reason other than raw, naked politics. If the President is serious about seeking common ground and working on behalf of what the American people want and need, then he will sign Keystone. It is what the people want, and good jobs and energy security is what our nation needs.”

Subjected to five State Department reviews involving more than 22,000 pages of data and evidence, no harmful environmental impact of the Keystone project has been identified. The pipeline construction will sustain more than 42,000 jobs, and provide a safer route for delivering oil to refineries over other methods such as rail and ship.

Added Martin, “Keystone will further the ends of energy independence, national security, creating jobs and buffering seniors and our most vulnerable from constantly fluctuating energy prices. On behalf of more than 7.2 million senior supporters, 60 Plus strongly endorses this exceptionally worthy and long-overdue project.”
