Around the Senate in 80 Days

Clock ticking on 80 day timeline to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh to Supreme Court

ALEXANDRIA, Virginia (July 13, 2018) – 60 Plus Association Founder and Chairman James Martin Friday issued the following statement on the confirmation process for Federal Appeals Court Judge Brett Kavanaugh to serve as associate justice on the Supreme Court of the United States:

“Democrats are already threatening to delay the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court so it’s no wonder that the Left is looking at his confirmation with the same sense of derision that Phileas Fogg, in the 1956 Hit movie Around the World in 80 Days, faced when he said he could circumnavigate the globe in a hot air balloon in 80 days.

“Senate Democrats will provide plenty of hot air in this process, but there is no reason that Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation cannot make it around the Senate in 80 days. The Supreme Court begins its next session on Monday, October 1 and it should convene with all nine justices seated on the bench.

“The credentials of Judge Kavanaugh are impeccable. Many of his appellate decisions over the years have been adopted by the high court and his judicial temperament is beyond reproach. He reflects President Trump’s principle of allegiance to the Constitution and justices who interpret law, not write it.

“Instead of throwing temper tantrums on cable news shows, Senate Democrats need to take seriously their constitutional role in this process and prepare to vote on Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation before the Supreme Court reconvenes this fall.

“The clock is ticking on Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation. Jules Verne’s idea of a balloon floating around the world in 80 days is a fanciful fiction but there is no good reason to delay this confirmation beyond October 1.”
