Legendary entertainer Pat Boone, national spokesman for the 60 Plus Association, announced today that Virginia Seventh District Republican candidate Nick Freitas has earned the Association’s Guardian of Seniors’ Rights award. In a statement released by 60 Plus, Boone remarked, “In these troubled times I’m still singing at concerts, but today I’m singing the praises of Nick Freitas. Seniors can depend on Nick Freitas.”
Boone is a star of music, movies and TV with three Stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. With more than 45 million albums sold since his recording career began in the 1950s as a teenager, Boone, according to Billboard magazine, holds the record for most consecutive weeks (220) on the charts by any performer. Boone and Elvis Presley were the top two recording stars from that era.
Freitas, a former member of the House of Delegates, and a Green Beret combat veteran, is a top tier challenger running to replace the Democrat currently holding the seat, Abigail Spanberger. Headlining today’s Friends of Freitas reception was Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Ca). Also on hand to present the award were 60 Plus Founder and Chairman Jim Martin, accompanied by one of the Association’s members, Arlingtonian Bill Shaker and his business associate Velma Ruth and Association executive Mary Mahoney.
Martin said the Guardian award is presented to “those who work tirelessly for seniors. I’ve traveled across the Nation on many occasions to present awards, but it’s an honor to be here with Nick Freitas who has pledged to protect our country from all enemies, both foreign and domestic, promises to protect our beloved Constitution and will look out for our seniors living on fixed incomes. Nick can be counted on to always protect Social Security and Medicare. Again, it’s an honor for me, a former U. S. Marine, to present Nick Freitas, a Green Beret veteran, the Association’s coveted Guardian of Seniors’ Rights award.
“60 Plus advocates for burying the ‘death tax.’ “It was Benjamin Franklin who famously said there are two certainties in life, taxes and death. But because of the estate/death tax there’s a third certainty—taxes after death. This confiscatory tax is a hindrance to job creation and liberals love to call it an estate tax, falsely implying our efforts to repeal it is a gift to the rich. Nonsense. Repeal is not a tax break for the rich. They have funds to hire lawyers and accountants to protect their assets. Instead it’s small businesses, including farmers who are land rich, but cash poor, who suffer the most,” he concluded.
