OCA President Chris Long makes the following statement concerning the passing of Mr. Bob Murray, founder and chairman of Murray Energy

“Bob Murray was a friend to the coal miners of Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and across the country. Raised in a coal mining family, and a coal miner himself, he learned at a young age a strong work ethic, as after his father was injured, Bob had to start working to help the family. He rose to be the leader of one of America’s great energy companies, always remembering his roots and looking out for the coal miner. He always had in mind the working men and women of the coal industry. He fought against the eight-year War on Coal that the Obama Administration thrust at him and those in his industry. Struggling with health issues, he got up every day with the mission to help the working men and women in America’s coal industries. His business leadership is an example of decency and fairness, contrasted in a day when most seek a quick financial profit and don’t care who they trample on to get what they want. It was my pleasure to host Mr. Murray on our weekly radio program with Jim Martin of the 60 Plus Association, Pat Boone and Congressman Bill Johnson of Ohio’s 6th district. We will all miss this dear man, and we offer our prayers and condolences to his family.”
