The Death Tax — May It Rest In Peace

Dying Should Not Be A Taxable Event

Statement by 60 Plus Association President, Jim Martin, Zenger Room, National Press Club

Washington, DC — Only in the United States are we issued a certificate at birth, a license at marriage and a tax bill — at death!

At the 60 Plus Association, our battle cry for over 10 years has been to kill the ‘death tax’, not wound it but kill it.

President Clinton opposed death tax repeal, calling it a windfall for the wealthy, a con job of the first order. He knew full well that the wealthy don’t pay. They set up trusts and foundations. John Kerry pushes the same con job.

President Bush, on the other hand, supports death tax repeal. President Bush knows death tax repeal would trigger business expansion, start-up of new businesses, and would provide help for farmers across the land.

Let’s face it. Dying should not be a taxable event!

Let’s kill the death tax. Put it in its grave. May it rest in peace (R.I.P.).
