President Bush has proclaimed the month of May as “National Physical Fitness and Sports Month” and the 60 Plus Association heartily commends him for so doing.

The 60 Plus Association is quickly learning that Internet issues are seniors’ issues. The current debate over how to stop illegal downloading of music and movies directly affects our members and their families, almost all of whom use the Internet on a regular basis. We agree that artists and other owners of digital content should be protected. But consistent with the 60 Plus philosophy of robust, free market initiatives, we also want to keep the government out of the business of designing technologies to prevent copying and then forcing people to use them.

60 Plus Association President Jim Martin hailed new legislation introduced by Congressman Max Burns (R-GA) as a ‘senior friendly’ proposal that would simplify federal income tax filing forms for the elderly.

The United States Senate is voting on the reform of the Foreign Sales Corporation Act this week. Senator John Ensign will be offering an amendment, the “Invest in the USA Act.” Last year, Senator Ensign’s bill passed the Senate by a two-to-one margin. If the Senator’s amendment passes, it would then go to the House and likely on to the White House.
