Washington, D.C.—After several failed attempts to stimulate the sluggish American economy with historic injections of government spending, President Obama is proposing another $50 billion in federal spending on infrastructure projects.  Spending Revolt, a coalition of taxpayers, families, business owners, and policy organizations, is strongly condemning the new Obama spending initiative.

“The Obama Administration is doubling down on failure by proposing another $50 billion in reckless government spending,” stated the Spending Revolt coalition. “We have once again learned the hard way that no nation can spend its way to prosperity.  The previous stimulus packages have failed to create jobs and spur economic growth.  Why should the American people trust this Administration to do more of the same and expect a different result?”

“America faces a severe spending crisis that is rapidly bankrupting our nation,” stated the coalition. “Current spending levels are unsustainable, irresponsible, and negligent.  The Federal Government’s uncontrolled spending and unwillingness to live within a budget is undermining our economic security and national prosperity.”

Spending Revolt has launched a national bus tour and advocacy campaign to raise citizen awareness about how the mounting federal spending crisis is jeopardizing America’s future. The red and blue emblazoned Spending Revolt Bus is bringing speakers, events, and a mobile activist hub to cities across the country.  And the campaign’s website features educational tools and an interactive government spending calculator to help citizens understand the magnitude of Washington’s historic spending binge and how it relates to their lives.

The Federal Government is currently spending $112,000 every second. This amounts to $10 million in spending in the 90 seconds it takes to read this media release, $67 million in the 10 minutes needed to take a shower, and more than $1 billion in the 162 minutes that the average American spends watching television each day.  The national debt recently ballooned to more than $13 trillion, and America’s debt is now projected to surpass GDP by 2012—placing the U.S. closer to the crushing debt load that has engulfed Greece.

The Spending Revolt coalition, which is composed of organizations such as Americans for Prosperity, The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), Concerned Women for America, and 60 Plus Association, is working to educate and engage the public on the critical public policy issue of government spending.
