Jim Martin, “If Obamacare is as great as the President and Democrats who passed it say it is, then they should be the first to sign up and embrace it!”

(Alexandria, Virginia) — The 60 Plus Association, the nation’s largest conservative seniors organization and acknowledged alternative to the liberal AARP, today endorsed Rep. Ron DeSantis’s (R-FL) proposed bill eliminating special healthcare subsidies for members of Congress and their staffs achieved under a special deal brokered by President Obama himself.   DeSantis will introduce the bill in September when Congress returns from recess.

Dubbed the “James Madison Congressional Accountability Act,” the legislation would block Congressmen and their employees from receiving government subsidies to pay their Obamacare premiums, a perk provided through a bureaucratic ruling by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and not through a legislative amendment to the law.

Said 60 Plus Founder and Chairman Jim Martin, “Ron DeSantis deserves praise for affirming the basic principles of representative government.  If members of Congress want a taxpayer funded privilege to avoid the burden of Obamacare shouldered by every other American, they ought to vote on it in broad daylight as a change to the Obamacare law, not hide behind a sweetheart deal gift wrapped by the President’s appointees at HHS.

“The champions of Obamacare keep telling us how wonderful this law is with their words, yet in their actions they speak louder than residents of Tokyo fleeing from Godzilla.  Candid Democrats have been honest enough to call this law a ‘train wreck.’  Well if the American people are forced to buy a ticket and climb on board, then so too should the politicians who run the railroad.

“By exempting themselves from their very own creation the Democrats have demonstrated once again that Obamacare is not about fixing healthcare, or helping average Americans.  It is about expanding their powerbase and inserting bureaucrats and politicians into the private affairs of citizens.  The DeSantis bill should be supported by everyone who believes that politicians are not a special class who are above the laws they write and force everyone else to obey.”
