Seniors Group Embraces ‘No Tech Mandates’

The 60 Plus Association is quickly learning that Internet issues are seniors’ issues. The current debate over how to stop illegal downloading of music and movies directly affects our members and their families, almost all of whom use the Internet on a regular basis. We agree that artists and other owners of digital content should be protected. But consistent with the 60 Plus philosophy of robust, free market initiatives, we also want to keep the government out of the business of designing technologies to prevent copying and then forcing people to use them.

Super Rich Nonsense

Super Rich Nonsense by Pat Boone: “I don’t have a problem with super-wealthy people using their money to influence the political process. Have at it. But they ought to be straight with us: If Bill Gates, Warren Buffett or “the fabulously wealthy” Teresa Heinz take a certain position on legislation, they ought to make it clear whether they will personally benefit in some way.”

R.I.P.

“Only in the United States are we issued a certificate at birth, a license at marriage and a tax bill — at death! At the 60 Plus Association, our battle cry for over 10 years has been to kill the ‘death tax’, not wound it but kill it.” says 60 Plus President, Jim Martin.

Seniors Support S.150

“Sales tax. Property tax. Telephone tax. Vehicular tax. Toll bridge tax. Real estate tax. Capital gains tax. Fishing license tax. Death tax. On and on and on. Do you see a pattern here? It seems like everything under the sun is a taxable experience…and as a Floridian, I’d not be surprised to soon see a suntan tax!” says Jim Martin, President of the 60 Plus Association.

Herseth’s Medicare Take All Wrong…

A new video ad that Congressional candidate Stephanie Herseth is airing is beyond misleading. It is a sad reminder that political people will sometimes do anything — including lie — to sway public opinion.

Burns Lauded For ‘Senior Friendly’ Legislative Proposal

60 Plus Association President Jim Martin hailed new legislation introduced by Congressman Max Burns (R-GA) as a ‘senior friendly’ proposal that would simplify federal income tax filing forms for the elderly.

Dems’ Prefer Medicare Stay Stuck In The 60’s

Statement By 60 Plus Association President Jim Martin: “Page 3 of the March 23rd edition of The Hill titled “House Dems launch spring offensive on Medicare law” is listed under the banner of “News.” I humbly disagree: the banner should have read “Old News” at best, “Demagoguery” more precisely.”

McCain Proposal On Drug Reimportation Unwise, Unhealthy

The legislation on drug reimportation proposed recently by Senator John McCain is both unwise and unhealthy. And in fact, the Senator’s plan should be labeled, ‘Hazardous To Your Health.’ President Bush just signed into law legislation crafted by Congress to provide a prescription drug benefit while improving access to generic drugs for all Americans, negating the need to go outside the U.S. for drugs. The 60 Plus Association endorsed this long overdue proposal.

Ultra Liberal Scientists On The Environment

Roger Zion, Chairman of the 60 Plus Association stated that, “With the mainstream media here salivating over the possibility of a Republican President losing his bid for a second-term, you can expect to see a lot of one-sided “Beat Up On Bush” stories with Washington datelines.”

A Canary In America’s Coal Mine

Jim Martin recently addressed a congressional committee about what’s being done — and what’s not being done — to improve America’s energy supplies and reminded Congress that seniors have long memories.
