Obama Continues Social Security Lie and Scare Tactics against Senior Citizens

Jim Martin: “If seniors don’t get their Social Security checks on time, it is for one reason only: Obama deliberately chose not to send them.”

(Alexandria, Virginia) — In the midst of a budget showdown with House Republicans, President Obama is once again perpetuating the lie that an impasse on the debt ceiling could result in  seniors not receiving their Social Security checks.  Obama’s claim, however, is a doozy of a lie, and a disturbing character trait of a President who admitted last month he lied when claiming his Obamacare legislation would not raise taxes on the poor and middle-class.

Obama’s serial untruthfulness brought a sharp rebuke from 60 Plus Association Chairman Jim Martin, leader of the nation’s largest conservative seniors organization with over 7.2 million supporters, and the acknowledged alternative to the liberal AARP.

“The Democrats just can’t help themselves, old habits are hard to break, and lying to seniors and attempting to scare them is the oldest habit there is.  Obama has trotted out this craven scare tactic in the past only to be refuted by the truth that the government collects ample revenue to fully fund Social Security.  The good news is that seniors have long stopped believing whatever these desperate and despicable politicos have to say.”

Martin was making reference to a 60 Plus YouTube video released in July of 2011 where he took the President to task for lying about Social Security checks falling victim to budget disputes.  That video received nearly a quarter of a million views and shortly after its release the White House dropped the phony claim from its talking points.

The Heritage Foundation further published a short blog listing three reasons why the President and the U.S. Treasury can continue to meet the nation’s Social Security obligations regardless of a debt ceiling  increase.

“With the government taking in record revenue from tax receipts, it remains as true today as it did two years ago that the President has the power of the pen, the only way Social Security checks don’t go to their rightful recipients would be because the President personally chose not to make those payments, not because of any budget squabble.

“Fear mongering still has no place in politics, especially as it regards our Greatest Generation,” Martin concluded.  “When the Democrats have to rely on recycled lies in order to advance their arguments it reminds seniors all they need to remember about who is truly fighting for them and who is only interested in exploiting them.”
